With the theme, “Our Inspiration On Unity Amidst Diversity”, the University of San Agustin celebrated annual event, the Patron Saint’s Day last August 28 at the University of San Agustin Main Campus.
As the University of San Agustin is a Catholic institution, with a growing community the university’s covered gym was filled with hopeful hearts and prayer-filled spirits as the day started with Red Mass. Students from the Basic Education Department (BED) to the students from different colleges of the university attended the mass together with the faculty, staff and school administrators.
After the mass, the 60th anniversary of the University of San Agustin as a university was launched by Rev. Fr. Frederick Commendador, O. S. A., President of the university.
The College of Business Administration and Acccountancy (CBAA) Cheerdancers, awarded champions of the Cheerdance competition held August 24, 2012, then led the “Sad-Sad sa San-Agustin” luring students to flock the streets of the university. Here, the dancers showcased their talents and showed everybody why they were held champions of the said competion.
Many activities lined the morning’s celebration like the “Hinampang sa San Agustin” and the “AgustinOne vs the Mob”
As the morning neared lunchtime everybody became busy preparing for the traditional “Salo-Salo”. Salo-salo, a tagalong word meaning banquet or gathering. Here, food and drinks were shared with laughters and friendship. Students got to break barriers and strengthen bonds among other members of their department or members coming from other departments of the university.
Laughters and cheers were heard everywhere. There were singing and dancing. Indeed, everybody was filled with the spirit of the Agustinian fiesta.
This day was more than just a no class day, a break from the routine of everyday student life and most of all; it was a day full of learning, enjoyment, friendship and brotherhood worth celebrating. This event reminds us that even though we belong to different departments, we are all Agustinians living the teachings of Saint Agustin with one mind and one heart. Indeed, as a university the University of San Agustin found its inspiration on unity amidst diversity.
